Summer is finally here, and with it, a fresh wave of fashion trends ready to take over. From the newest ‘it’ shade of pink to standout accessories, these are seven trends defining summer 2025, and seven we need to let go of…

OUT: Barbie pink

IN: Soft ballet pink

Butter yellow definitely had its moment in 2024, but this year, ballet pink is taking center stage. Soft, subtle, and everywhere, it was a standout on the spring runways, appearing in sheer dresses, sculptural silhouettes, pared-back tailoring, and delicate accessories. And with balletcore on the rise, the shift feels natural. As for Barbiecore? It was fun while it lasted.

OUT: Cowl neck cami

IN: Scarf tops

I like Y2K as much as the next person, but I do think some things need to be left in the 2000’s and cowl neck cami’s are one of them. Once a go-to top but now feels a little bit overdone. As minimalism evolves in 2025, trends are now shifting towards cleaner lines and intentional silhouettes. Let’s reintroduce scarf tops, fresh, versatile, endlessly customisable. Whether tied asymmetrically, wrapped around the neck, or styled strapless, it’s effortlessly edgy. It’s minimalism with a twist (literally).

OUT: Gingham

IN: Pinstripes

Once beloved for its breezy, vintage appeal, I think gingham has started to lose its charm. Its checkered innocence now feels like it’s leaning heavily into a nostalgic aesthetic. Instead of gingham, I’m returning to the timeless classic of fashion, pinstripes (the thinner the better). This year, I want to see people embracing the return of stripes through boxer-style shorts, oversized shirts, and co-ords, mixing and matching them to create a playful and modern look.

OUT: Florals

IN: Polkadots

Florals used to be the go-to for ‘summery’, romantic vibes but recently they are starting to feel a little bit too out there for the minimalist vibe of 2025. This year, polka dots are in as they add a punch of personality without overwhelming the look. It’s a much more sophisticated and refined look for the summer.

OUT: Chunky sandals

IN: Elevated flip flops

Once the statement footwear of choice, chunky sandals are starting to feel bulky and overdone. Their heavy, clunky silhouette clashes with the growing desire for streamlined, effortless style as 2025 moves toward refined simplicity. 2025 is all about the elevated flip flops stepping up as the chic alternative. Think sleek lines, luxe materials, and subtle details that transform a casual staple into a polished must-have. They offer comfort without compromising on style, which is perfect for those who want to keep it laid-back but sophisticated.

OUT: Big earrings

IN: Long, statement necklaces

Big earrings are starting to feel a bit overpowering and expected, their bold, chunky presence doesn’t quite fit the evolving mood of 2025, which favors a more balanced and refined approach to accessorising. Instead, long, statement necklaces are making a stylish comeback, bringing elegance in a way that feels fresh and modern. These pieces add length and movement, creating focal points that elevate any outfit with effortless sophistication. It’s all about striking impact without overwhelming the look.

OUT: Short denim shorts

IN: Micro shorts

Even though they have been a summer staple for as long as I can remember, short denim shorts are starting to feel a bit basic and overdone. Their casual, classic vibe doesn’t quite capture the bold energy that’s taking over 2025’s summer style. Micro shorts are the latest trending with their confidence edge that is perfect for making a statement this summer.

So whether you’re updating your summer wardrobe, or just in the mood to try something different, these swaps are an easy way to keep you in the loop this summer. This season is all about effortless upgrades.
