HBO has revealed it’s golden trio for the upcoming TV series based on the Harry Potter books. With Dominic McLaughlin as Harry, Alastair Stout as Ron and Arabella Stanton as Hermione.
This comes seven months after producers held an open casting call for UK actors aged 9 to 11.
The trio will join Nick Frost as Hagrid, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, and Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall.

While Arabella Stanton may be recognised by some, having starred as the titular character in Matilda the Musical on the West End, the other two are as yet unseen. Dominic McLaughlin is set to appear in the upcoming Sky Comedy film Grow alongside fellow Potter cast member Nick Frost, which will be the boy-who-lived actor’s debut.
In the days following the reveal, audition footage of Arabella Stanton from an earlier project circulated online.
The young actors were revealed in a press release alongside a statement saying:
“The series will be a faithful adaptation of the beloved Harry Potter books by author and executive producer J.K. Rowling”
The statement, intended to reassure fans, comes in the wake of controversy surrounding the casting announcement of Paapa Essiedu as Professor Snape.

While Essiedu is not how some fans may have picture the greasy-haired, hook-nosed potions master, the young actors cast as the core trio could have been lifted straight from the page.

The series is being executive produced by Francesca Gardiner along with Mark Mylod, who have collaborated previously for HBO on Succession.
