Tyler, the Creator turned Manchester into Chromakopia for two electric nights, and night one was nothing short of unforgettable.
The Chromakopia Tour isn’t just a concert, it’s Tyler’s universe brought to life. Think collages of colour, sound, and emotion pulled from every era of his genre-bending career.
It’s less a tour and more like walking through a living museum of Tyler’s many identities including Flower Boy, IGOR, Wolf, and now, the mind behind Chromakopia.
The Co-op Live crowd did not disappoint. Fans showed up in full costume: IGOR’s iconic blonde bob, head-to-toe forest green, and even references to Tyler’s Vine days. It was a visual reminder of just how deep Tyler’s influence runs. At 33, he’s still defining what it means to be an artist with a world of his own.
But that’s the magic of a Tyler show, you think you’re there for the music but it quickly becomes clear you’re part of something way bigger. Something only Tyler fans truly get.
And Tyler? He knows how to make an entrance.
Before the music started, the arena glowed green, flames shot up from the stage, and out marched Tyler in full Chromakopia uniform and mask to the opening track, “St. Chroma.” After that, you weren’t at Co-op Live, you were inside Chromakopia.
The production was incredible. A bridge descended between stages mid-show, and during “Sticky,” Tyler casually made it rain from above with literal dollar bills fluttering down as the crowd lost their minds. People were still taking pictures with those bills outside the venue hours later.
Stage B was something else entirely. It looked like Tyler’s personal creative cave, vinyl records scattered around, furniture, and carefully curated chaos. Instead of calling out the next song, he’d pick up a record, examine it, and drop the needle on it.
It feels like a live, in-the-moment mixtape rather than a planned concert.
The show is a speed run through Tyler’s discography, filled with old fan favourites and heartfelt renditions of his new songs.
From the many, chaotic mosh pits during “New Magic Wand,” to the pit sitting and rowing in unison during ‘WUSYANAME’, and the entire arena becoming Tyler’s own personal choir during “Like Him”, the crowd knew exactly how to react to each song – even catching Tyler off guard at times.
For the finale, Tyler brought it back to the main stage, and closed with fan favourite “See You Again” before ending with Chromakopia’s “I Hope You Find Your Way Home,” sending fans out on a high and a hug disguised as a song.
Tyler continues to show everyone why people recognise him as one of the most creative, unpredictable, and entertaining artists of our time.
If you ever get the chance to see him live, don’t think. Just go.
