Addison Rae is not just the girl who perfected the “Renegade” during your quarantine scroll anymore. The once viral TikTok dancer is now a popstar, who is dropping her debut album “Addison” this Friday.
After years of being underestimated and laughed at online, Addison has had the ultimate pop girl rebrand and is finally being taken seriously. And honestly? It’s about time.
With over 88 million TikTok followers and a trail of viral videos behind her, she has been transitioning into acting and music for a short while now.
Remember when she dropped “Obsessed” back in 2021? The internet dragged it.
But fast forward to 2023, Addison stunned critics and fans alike with her surprise EP AR.
Not only did Addison truly find her voice, but she also teamed up with the pop icon Charli XCX. It wasn’t just catchy, it was cool.
But it wasn’t until her breakout hit “Diet Pesi” that everything changed. The hazy, 2000s-style pop anthem climbed its way into the UK’s Top 10, marking her first major music success.
Suddenly, the ‘girl from TikTok’ was sharing the Coachella stage with Arca where she teased this new album.
During a remix of her song “Aquamarine” (called “Arcamarine”) she flashed her pink, Victoria’s Secret underwear with “June 6” bedazzled across the back.
While nobody understood the dates’ significance at the time, we now know it as an iconic way of dropping hints at her new album.
Since, “Addison” has been eagerly anticipated and is set to be a blend of glittery, chaotic Britney Spears mixed with the dreaminess of Lana Del Rey – think early-2000s nostalgia.
RollingStone have described the tracks as “hypnotic, trance-like pop songs” with lyrics that embody the spirit of being “young, fun, and free”. Fans are hoping it will be something along the likes of Lorde.
Addison teased the tracklist with a carousel of billboards across the world. From New York to Tokyo, these billboards displayed song titles and lyrics.
She later took to Instagram, with another underwear-themed announcement. She flipped through a rack of black underwear each with the song titles printed across the back. Iconic.
The 12-track album is set to arrive with Columbia Records and features 5 previously released singles along with the names of some new tracks:
- “New York”
- “Diet Pepsi”
- “Money Is Everything”
- “Aquamarine”
- “Lost & Found”
- “High Fashion”
- “Summer Forever”
- “In the Rain”
- “Fame Is a Gun”
- “Times Like These”
- “Life’s No Fun Through Clear Waters”
- “Headphones On”
One early release “Fame Is a Gun” dives into the darker sides of stardom, exploring toxic romances with vulnerable, compelling lyrics.
This album is set to quite personal, as Addison teased the release on Instagram with the caption “I love the entirety of this project with all of me. A mirror. A deep desperation and desire to understand myself better. A true collection of my proudest work yet. My dream cover. My dream collaborators.” Those collaborators include producers Luka Kloser and Elvira Anderfjärd, who helped her shape a sound that feels both nostalgic and fun.
So, whether you’ve been a fan since her TikTok days or are just now tuning in, Addison Rae is set for a big drop. She has embraced the cringe, found her style, and tomorrow the world hears Addison the album, not the TikTok Girl.
And if you’re not on board yet? You might be soon.
