The long-anticipated trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, has finally arrived and the internet has gone wild. From Jacob Elordi thirst-traps, to whether it will stay true to the novel, what do fans really think about this monster revival story?
Front and centre is the Saltburn star Jacob Elordi, in full tragic form as Frankenstein’s creature. With Oscar Isaac cast as the mad doctor and Mia Goth as Frankenstein’s doomed bride, this adaption might just be the best one yet.
The cinematic trailer promises a more elevated approach to the tale, with eerie shadows, misty graveyards and plenty of gloom for a fully enigmatic experience.
But no one seemed to have anticipated this version of the creature. Some say Jacob Elordi is too conventionally attractive, while others argue this stays true to Mary Shelley’s original novel where Victor picked the most attractive features to build his creature.
Regardless, Elordi was transformed with prosthetics and painted green, and somehow TikTok is still thirsting? Less than 24 hours after the trailer dropped, fan edits began to flood TikTok For You pages and #Frankenstein continues to climb on X. Whether you’re drooling over Jacob Elordi or not, it’s clear that fans are eagerly anticipating the films premiere on Netflix this November.
The chemistry between Isaac and Elordi is already generating speculation that del Toro is leaning into the emotional and possibly romantic tension embedded in Shelley’s original story. Through long stares and mournful monologues, this might just be the adaption that addresses the homoerotic subtext as the creature yearns for connection. Either way, many fans are hopeful that this adaption will follow the original storyline of the novel.
Many are also excited about Guillermo Del Toro finally being given the opportunity to take on Frankenstein, with some saying that he deserves a theatre release. After his Pinocchio was eventually shown in theatres, lots are hopeful that these hauntingly stunning visuals will make it onto the big screen too.
Whether we end up watching from the cinema or simply streaming on a phone screen with a good pair of headphones, will the gothic atmosphere, crumbling castles and of course Jacob Elordi, make this worth the wait?
