Social media users have been questioning the father of Mummy Pig’s baby after a fake Daddy Pig Twitter account was created. We spoke to Grace Enirayetan about her viral video on the Tweet.

A fake social media account pretending to be Daddy Pig revealed he was not the father of Mummy Pig’s new pregnancy, causing social media users to speculate over the baby’s true identity. This led to conspiracy theories, trolling and joking videos to circle TikTok and become viral, as old viewers of the show were coming back to joke about the new pregnancy.

Although a children’s show would not allow a cheating scandal to take place and Daddy Pig is clearly the father what other possibilities are there?

Grace Enirayetan, a 22-year-old law student at the University of Reading, made a TikTok video showing screenshots from the fake Daddy Pig’s tweet and discussions about who the father could be, which went viral and amassed over two hundred-thousand views. Grace, who has the account name grace.kenai, does social media alongside her masters degree, and shared who she thought the father could be.  

In her video she outlined her main suspects were; Mr Bull, Mr Zebra, Mr Fox, and Mr Pony. In an exclusive interview with Illuminated, she shared her reasoning behind posting the video.

“Everyone used to love Peppa Pig back in the day, so I thought I may as well make a video about it,” she says. “I was scrolling through Twitter and I saw a Tweet and thought it was hilarious, so I thought Id share it on TikTok.”

“I was like ‘hmm that could be an interesting topic, then I posted it and I saw a lot of people agreeing and giving their different suspects,” she continued. “I was like ‘oh so other people are thinking this, its not just me that thinks it could be another person’.”

“So many people have spoken about it before so I thought me making a video wouldn’t really make any difference but I guess the type of video I made was funny and everyone enjoyed it.”

Grace has had other videos go viral in the past, including one that amassed over two million views. “I had a similar type of thing two years ago that I think was my first viral video, that one was scary because when you go viral for the first time it is like anxiety like ‘oh my gosh what are they saying’,” she says.

“You’re checking the comments every few seconds, like are they hating are they mean? This one was definitely more relaxed.”

There are a variety of reasons why people think the new baby has been introduced into the show, which they have been sharing online. “I’ve seen some people saying it is a recession indicator which is very interesting, some people are saying that they’re just trying to keep the show running, I think that I guess it’s about time they have another chid, George is all lonely so why not have another child?” she says. 

“They could do literally anything with it there are so many possibilities to represent a group of children especially cause this is a show that lots of people watch, so if they see a character that not looks like them but has the same characteristics as them I feel like that is an opportunity for them to do so much.”

Although there are a lot of negative views on the show, surrounding whether it is a good influence for children, people were excited that Daddy Pig may not be the father. “Actually, a lot of people were happy that she could be a cheater, which is very interesting, I guess controversy sells. I didn’t get a lot of comments saying she was faithful which was weird,” she says.

“Obviously she hasn’t cheated but yeah I just thought it would be interesting to see a different dynamic.”

One of the reasons that came up for why people are posting about the situation in our previous piece was nostalgia. “I just think it goes back to the nostalgia thing like that’s one thing that unites us as a country that once we have a show or anything that we remembered as a child we can join up together and laugh about it,” Grace says.

“I saw loads of comments of people saying we are such a silly nation because why are we talking about a Peppa Pig child. But I think it is really good for us as a country especially after the times we have been having to unite and talk about something like this.”

Whether or not you agree with the pregnancy or not, or why you think the show has done it and who you think the father is, it is clear that it has gained a large viewership for the show. All the pregnancy related videos and official Peppa Pig accounts have been gaining millions of views. Is it encouraging people to watch the show?

“Honestly I might even watch the new show. I’m sure if I watch Peppa pig now, I wouldn’t think this is an amazing show but because I have watched it as a child and I loved it its an amazing show,” Grace says. “So yeah I might watch the first couple episodes to see the new baby.”
